The vet will need to take a blood test to make sure she is negative for
heartworms before giving you heartworm medication. It's never too late
to start as long as the dog is negative for heartworm.

As far as the butt scooting, she may have other types of worms which
can be diagnosed by a vet using a fecal sample. He'll be able to determine
if she has worms and help you determine why she is butt scooting.

Please keep us posted on what your vet finds out.
