Hi Gayle -

I have been making Max's food for a few years now and he is thriving on it. I give him a multivitamin supplement every day to be sure I don't miss any nutrients that I may be missing in his food. I also vary the veggies each new batch to give him a broader scope of nutrients.

Max's Food

1 1/2 Cups brown rice(not converted or quick cooking)
1/2 Cup flaxseed meal
1/2 Cup safflower oil
1 - 1 1/2 Cups yellow/orange veggies: carrots or sweet potato
1 - 1 1/2 Cups green veggies: green beans, spinach, broccoli
4 Cups water

1 lb. ground meat - I use lamb because of his allergies

Mix everything but the meat in a 2 quart sauce pan. Bring to a boil, cover and let it simmer until the water is absorbed. Real brown rice takes 30-40 minutes.

Brown the ground meat in a frying pan. Stir meat into the rice mixture when both are done. Store in the fridge for 5 days, freeze if it lasts longer than that. (When I freeze it, I put in individual sized Zip-Loc bags, then I can just take one out and nuke it to defrost it. These are also good to throw in a cooler for trips.)

Good luck with Dewey!
