Lucy Avellino
Innocent Ingenues
Mon Apr 4, 2005 22:35

“Jesus Christ, my hands won’t stop shaking!” Lucy glanced up from adjusting the hidden zipper on her Hannibal costume, watching Erik fiddle with the front of his costume. And he was Erik. Caleb had slowly faded away under the period clothing and makeup, not to mention the prosthetic he had picked up to apply. Wiggling bare toes, because she wouldnt step into her slippers until she left the room, the slim ingenue reached up to hold the top against his brow so the agent-turned-actor could glue the bottom portion onto his jaw and cheek.

“I don’t know how you do this,” he muttered, followed soon by “You still look like Leia, damn it.” An arm settled itself around her shoulders, comforting in its very weight. Her giggle fluttered in the air before her lips. "Is that a fact, Mister Solo?" Eyebrows wiggled salaciously at his leer then furrowed at his next comment. “Time to face our demons.” Well ... she was Lucyfer. Caleb's very own bundle of trouble.

“Opera Ghost!” Barely two inches from the wings and they'd been spotted. “It’s great to see you two again.” Lucy's mouth dropped open - there was Golden Boy in all his glory! Blond hair, perfect teeth and a small harem of chorus girls. "Sean!" They met somewhere in the middle of the stage, exchanging a fierce embrace, the reuinion kiss noisy and very platonic. Still, the pretty redhead in the chorus was glaring daggers at 'Christine'. Interesting.

"You look great." After a moment, he held her at arm's length. Sensitive, caring eyes gave her a once-over, that very same concern that had netted him the nickname of 'Annoyingly Heroic' and 'Golden Boy'. "Thank you. I'm doing alright." Arm in arm, Raoul and his lady-love walked back to Caleb, just in time for the rendition of 'I am the Great and Powerful Oz'. Which wasn't too far off, considering.

She watched the back-and-forth between Ray and Caleb from the sidelines, well until she was tugged into a goodluck hug. Mmmm. She believed more in destiny than luck now, after everything she'd been through. Still, it was nice of him to go through the old ritual. Oo, and a kiss to start the night off on a good note. Time to go be a young, beautiful singer.

Damn typecasting.

And, two hours later, it was sadly clear that everyone involved in the final night's surprise was certifiable. Lucy forgot her lines twice, a very forlorn ingenue was helped out by Marion of all people - the actress playing Carlotta had snuck in about thirty minutes later with a huge tray of Starbucks coffee. Subsequently, she was now Lucy's second favorite person.

"Night-time sharpens, heightens each sensation . . . Darkness stirs and wakes imagination . . . Silently the senses abandon their defences . . ." Do. Not. cry. No crying allowed in this scene! Christine was supposed to look dreamy and almost smitten. And she definately wasn't allowed to wave frantically at the actress who played Meg, who was seated in the audience. So she didn't. Barely.

Caleb must have sensed her distraction, because the next span of lines were delivered tour de force, with plenty of hand roaming across her dressing gown. Well, damn. It had been a long time since they shared a bed, and her body was such a little traitor. It responded, as Caleb had probably assumed. Little shit. Ok, big shit. "Softly, deftly,
music shall surround you . . . Feel it, hear it, closing in around you . . . Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind, in this darkness which you know you cannot fight -
the darkness of the music of the night . . ."

By the time they crossed the stage to where the Christine doll would stand, Lucy was already in love all over again with the smartass behind the mask.

"No, you are not allowed to open your eyes yet. So stop trying." Lucy warned, as his hands rose to remove her own, which were currently obscuring his sight. They were in a taxi, roaming through the conctrete jungle of Manhattan Island. They had the entire afternoon together before tonight's rehearsal. The play had already opened, but there was another week to go before the former cast replaced the current one at the show's closing.

The cab rolled to a halt shortly, her hands finally moving away as the girl rifled around in her purse for cabbie's payment and tip. "Ok, grumpy. Open your eyes." Can anyone guess what view beheld Caleb? Why, the New York Zoo in Central Park. "C'mon, you." Climbing out of the backseat, the brunette stood there impatiently until the agent hauled his carcass out too, and then looped her arm through his as the couple strolled over to the entrance.

There was an abundance of families out and about, enjoying the nice weather. Lucy watched the little kids with sad eyes, but did not comment on anything in particular. Instead, she casually steered them over to the big cat pens and went from exhibit to exhibit -- taking pictures with a little digital camera she'd purchased.

"Caleb, you asked me some time back to think on a question. The answer is ... of course I'll wait, you smeghead." Bright, cheery smile. "Was there ever a doubt that I would? I love you. I want to have children with you. So ... yeah. I'll wait."

Ooooo. Big, ferocious kiss. Mwuahahaha. In front of the tigers.
