Just remember that you will be posting for the benefit of the exceptions, not to get through to this individual. She's not going to change her mind until she has a personal experience that forces her too (and that might never happen.) If you take "convincing her" out of the equation, your response will undoubtedly be rational and well received.

I pretty much detest what most people with degrees in "child education" say. They are taught in generalizations. I get it. I mean, it's normal to start a subject with the most common information first. What I've discovered from an "early childhood education" standpoint is that often, classes on gifted and special needs education aren't required. They are optional or they are a chapter in a larger class. I've been to early education conferences and sat with 8 people in the workshops on autism, ESL, giftedness, difficult personalities while the there was 80 people in the workshops on puppetry, musical games and the like. Educators are just people and like most people, until they are forced to deal with the "exceptions" they will forget they exist.
