I'm not the expert Jaybar is who frequents here is, but I've done a fair share of working on @ 8 HS of various models over the last few years. To my mind they should and do function just fine on SV ammo if the gun is mechanically sound and clean and the mags are adjusted right. First thing I do is always give them a good soak cleaning as in the manuals John has here on his site--sometimes twice. IMHO they are nowhere near as finicky about needing to be clean as a Smith 41 is, but they are a precision instrument that needs decent care. Then adjust the magazines also per Jaybar's instructions on the links here. If that doesn't do it, then I start with replacing the driving aka recoil spring, which you should do on a used gun anyway--@ every 10K rounds or so. What kind of feed malfunction are you getting--nose high on the upper side of the bore breach? Nose low on the bottom of the bore? Stovepipe of a live round? Fail to eject and stovepipe of a fired case? Fail to fully go to battery and light stikes? Let us know and we can put you in the right direction.

Hi John, I have two sport kings , a 1953 model and a 1981 model. I have been told High-velocity ammo could damage these pistol and I could install stronger recoil springs and shoot High-velocity with ... more

Hello Steve, Wolff makes higher force springs for your 1981 pistol. They do not make one for the 1953 model. Perhaps one could be adapted. Personally, I see absolutely no benefit to beating these... more

Same here--why? HV is almost always less accurate. Also, even if you use a stronger spring, then the slide is just going to rebound back to the breach face with that much more force, so you will now... more

I have the same question as Gene. My Sport King cycles and operates well with some 1200 fps ammo, but all the sub sonic or standard vel ammo causes at least one malfunction per magazine, two... more

First thing I do is make sure the ammo drops in the barrel as advised in this forum. I keep gun well cleaned and lubed. My first problem was high feed, I adjusted mag as advised, and it got much... more

You might still have multiple small problems; If cartridges are still feeding high that would normally mean you still need to close up the mag lips a few thou. Also make sure the rim is sliding... more
