Hello Tom,

I suspect that all you need is a good cleaning.

You might try removing the grips and soaking the revolver in a solvent like kerosene, naptha, or mineral spirits. Move the revolver around in the solvent after letting it soak for a few hours. This movement and cycling the hammer and trigger should help rinse out any grit and the gummy old oil holding it.

There is no effective way to lighten the trigger. It was intended to be 13 to 15 pounds in double action which will feel pretty stout. Cutting down the hammer spring has often been tried as a solution but is seldom if ever effective. Usually cutting down teh hammer spring results in a light hammer strike with occasional failures to fire.
