Cadmium magazines, maybe more
Sun Sep 9, 2018 14:40

Hi Ron,

I'm surprised at how often the Cadmium plated magazines show up on ebay. I already have probably 50 or so. The take-away is getting a GOOD one that hasn't swollen from interior rust so bad it would take a 5# hammer to get the dang thing inserted fully into the magazine well. I always try them out right away, so if they don't fit, I can return them for a full refund. If the photos are primo, it helps a LOT so you can recognize which are basically "junk", and not have to screw with the return process. The only ones I will keep getting are the 22 short magazines (cadmium's)

The cleaning tool can be found, but usually the sellers are really greedy. One on GB listed for 30.00+, another on ebay recently for a 50.00 OPEN bid. I recently snagged 16 for 12.00 each (plus ship but bought the whole lot so wasn't wacked so bad on shipping cost).

The round bottom weight may be the biggest problem finding. The Brackets for the weights are currently the biggest PITA finding WAY worse than the weight itself.

Hi Ron, ALL 102's shipped with Cadmium plated magazines. It wasn't until the early 103's when they switched to blue with blue followers (metal). Some people call them black so I never know if they... more

Hello Jim, All 102's did not ship with cadmium plated magazines. The drawing change for the finish change was in August 1959 about a year before the 103's appeared. Certainly there was a time frame... more

Hello John and Ron, My apologies, I must have been thinking the round bottom weights vs. the flat bottoms with the 102/103 shift Sorry about that, Jim
