Is everybody here...nice?

Evelyn stared back at the boy with nerves drawn into his expression. His reply had surprised her and she could feel her brain processing this information, slowly, as if it weren't willing to accept that it had been wrong beforehand. She had come to Sonora quite convinced that she would be the laughing stock of the school and certainly not friend material for any respectable student. Her schema was changing, though, and she was embarrassed to have been so rude before.

"I'm so sorry," Evelyn replied, practically just a chirp. "I'm sorry, I really thought you were picking on me. I'm so nervous, and I think I'm being a brat about it."

She took a moment to wipe her face with the sleeve of her robe, grateful to find only tears and no snot or anything there. She was careful not to smear her lipstick.

"I didn't expect to get Pecari," Evelyn admitted to the boy. "And I was hoping to be sorted with my friend, because I don't have any other ones and that seemed like it would be nice."

The boy had a plate of food in front of him and seemed eager to get started on his first-year. She recognized him from orientation but hadn't caught his name. Again though, anyone who liked food that much had to be worth at least one conversation.

"My name is Evelyn," she said. "And I'm really really sorry I snapped at you."
