A smirk seemed to have settled itself permanently onto Mary's face. She had never seen someone take such a clinical view of a marshmallow, and the way Tabitha pinched the little squish between two fingers made Mary want to laugh. She was careful to restrain herself, though, as she didn't want to interrupt this very important experience.

"Yes," Mary replied simply to Tabitha's question. "And you've got to tell me whether you like it first, don't just leave me hanging!"

She was teasing the woman, who was clearly enjoying this new treat. A dab of marshmallow had stuck itself to Tabitha's mouth and Mary found herself in quite the predicament. She had a number of options now, and none of them seemed ideal.

She could mention the sticky sugar, possibly embarrassing Tabitha but saving her from running into anyone else that way. She could do something about it herself, an option that seemed to have the most consequences and would certainly be a bit weird considering they'd only known each other for a few hours (had it really only been a few hours?). She could not say anything and leave Tabitha to discover the glop later tonight on her own, leave someone else to comment, or leave it to be brushed away naturally. None of these sounded good, but one of them at least seemed to be easily covered with humor.

"But yes," she said again, keeping her voice light and full of humor. She doubted Tabitha was the sort to be terribly embarrassed by something as adorable...ah. Normal...as bit of stuck on marshmallow. "I find you quite funny. And I find it quite funny that a bit of marshmallow seems as interested in you as you seem in it! You've got a bit on the corner of your mouth."

Mary smiled at her friend and then looked away as she took care of the matter. There was far too high a chance she would lick the marshmallow away and Mary preferred not to watch that just now.

"Do you think anybody else in here has done anything quite so exciting as a toasted marshmallow?" she asked, leaning towards Tabitha and nodding at the students in front of them. One boy seemed to have erupted a glass of something nasty onto his face, but otherwise the room was full only of voices and laughter. "I think we win for the most lovely meal tonight."
