Tabitha Hawthorne
While I'm left in the cold.

Tabitha sat in her chair, still staring at the space that Mary had left behind. Her hands were still outstretched, reaching for the woman that was no longer there. Reaching for the soft and warm hands that had been so abruptly torn from hers, leaving them open, empty and cold. The hot chocolate that had been spilled was dripping steadily on to the floor, splashing Tabitha's boots but she hardly even noticed. She felt hollow, empty and ice cold.

Then, she felt angry.

How in the hell could she have been so stupid? How could she have opened her stupid mouth and made known her stupid feelings because she was feeling so bloody reminiscent and nostalgic? It was a stupid, stupid, stupid thing to do. And it was all over a woman who she had only known for a few hours. Despite all the dangerous situations Tabitha had ever landed herself in, this one was somehow the most reckless and the most insane and she hadn't even needed to leave Sonora for it to happen. It was completely and entirely her fault.

"Damn it..." she hissed to herself, rage burning within her stomach. She needed to leave. Mary's abrupt departure would have already caused enough of a disturbance so it hardly mattered to Tabitha if she added to it but she could not stay there, sitting in her seat. Not after everything her big mouth had just caused.

She stood up, producing her wand and waved it idly, cleaning up the spilled hot chocolate and made her excuses to the rest of the teacher's table, who were no doubt wondering what on earth was going on. Tabitha did not want to remain to explain it and if this whole disaster meant that she'd lose her position as the Defence teacher, then so be it. She made her way through the hall at a quick pace, her white robe billowing out behind her.

As she stepped through the doors, her first thought was to disappear up into her Defence classroom and her office, away from everybody. That would've been the sensible thing to do. Calmer, clearer Tabitha, the Tabitha from an hour before might have done that. It would be the smartest, ideal thing to do... except this Tabitha was not the calm and rational thinking one from an hour previous. This Tabitha had just caused a woman, a wonderful, lovely, beautiful woman to leave her company. Had caused to practically run out of the hall, all because Tabitha hadn't been able to control her mouth.

There was only one thing that Tabitha could think to do. It was the only thing that made any sense to her wound up and irrational brain. It was the only thing that might be able to fix this whole complete mess.

She had to find Mary.

Mary was surprised that Tabitha's response was so similar, and so...true. It spoke deeply of Tabitha's depth depth of love for magical creatures and adventure, and Mary was inspired by the sincerity. ... more
