Luke Powell
Pick me!

Luke was pretty pleased with his sorting. He seemed to have landed himself in the coolest house because, now he came to think of it, the others sounded pretty lame. Although, just because he didn’t want to be a part of those houses, it certainly didn’t mean he wasn’t interested in being friends with people from them - he’d seen some pretty girls get sorted elsewhere and was fairly sure that Crotalus was all boys so there was no doubt friend potential there.

The first year had been forewarned that his chances of being Beater would be slim if he got sorted into Pecari, which was a shame because that was easily his favourite position. He’d played a lot of Quidditch over the past few years in preparation for Sonora because growing up he’d been more involved with Quodpot, which for some reason his new school did not offer, and had made a conscious decision to change that so he could get himself a spot on the team.

Not only had he received a lot of help from Joella but he’d also made solid friends with the Kinsell brothers when they moved into the neighbourhood. Those boys knew their magical sports inside out and they were also super rich so had all the facilities and equipment, which was totally awesome. Luke liked to think the idea of aiming a bludger at Zane Kinsell’s head was not the only reason he loved the Beater position so much, however.

Luke knew there was no rush to sign up for Quidditch since Joella was the captain and already knew his intentions and the try-outs weren’t until Saturday anyway. He was never the rushing type really. The first year did check the sheet whenever he walked past, checking to see new names that appeared since the last time he looked and curious as to what positions they were hoping for.

When he did finally come to signing himself up, he couldn’t help feeling a little disappointed knowing there was essentially no chance of him playing Beater for THREE WHOLE YEARS!

It wasn’t the end of the world. Sure, he liked Quidditch and he liked playing Beater but it didn’t mean as much to him as surfing did so he could cope with any position really, so long as he was on the team. Luke was an athletic kind of guy and knew full well that he could do well in whatever position he ended up in.

Luke Powell, 1st year, Beater (or Keeper, or any)

The only reason he specified Keeper rather than the other two remaining positions was because he could see that no one else had expressed an interest in it so far, meaning he probably had more chance with getting that than anything else. If that was what would get him on the Pecari Quidditch team, he would totally take it.
