She found him as she often found him: situated in a spot meant for two, homework splayed, ready and waiting for her to add to the mess. Sammy liked that. She liked being a part of Jamie’s mess; it made sense, and it meshed well with her own. She was glad they had gotten to be good friends. Admittedly, she had found him a little - okay, more than a little - obnoxious at first, but somehow the banter of semi-mean things she semi-really meant and the smartass replies he sent back at her had sorta coalesced into a solid friendship. It was rad.

“How horribly subjective,” she commented by way of greeting. The second chair was situated across the table from him, but she pulled it over by his side before sitting down. Sammy kept her tone flat, doing her best Aladren Impression™, with flat logic and zero emotion. It was a running joke she had with him, making fun of the other Houses, even though she knew there were good in all of them. Jax, for example, was way more than some calculator with eyeballs. In fact, the only negative she’d ever thought about him was when he’d become Mr. Steal Yo Girl, but that was accidental anyway. Day by day, she forgave everyone a little bit more. She forgave herself some, too.

“Seriously,” she added with a laugh, opening her textbook haphazardly and not expressing any concern as it flopped over Jamie’s stuff, “I’m pretty sure any of that garbage could make somebody blow chunks. Wizards are gross, by the way. Who the hell looked at a doxy and thought ‘Hmm, that’s a cool little beetle lizard fairy dude. I’m gonna rip off his freakin’ wings, toss it in a pot with a bunch of other creature parts, and Dr. Frankenstein myself some fancy ooze’? Stuff’s nasty.” Technically, she could have asked the same question about a lot of stuff - eating eggs, honey, and dairy products was not a far cry from this - and it had crossed her mind once or twice, but at least those things weren’t a horrible, disgusting amalgamation of dead creatures. (Yes, she knew meat was also dead animals. Shush. At least those ones were good and also cooked.)

“Anywho, what are you working on today?” she asked, turning her head to face him, wearing quite the little smirk. She could have easily figured out the answer to the question herself, but alas, her book was still covering the majority of his assignment. She suppressed the laugh threatening to break through her playfully composure, although the urge broke the seal of her closed lips here and there.
