"Interesting" indeed

Evelyn smirked and then smiled.

"Yeah," she said. "I guess so." Evelyn hadn't said it before, but she supposed it was actually pretty cool that they were finally at Sonora. It was certainly better than spending the rest of her education disappointing her parents.

"I like that word. 'Interesting.' It's a good word because it always means you think something else about it, too," she went on. "Not many people like my makeup but they never say it's interesting, they just say it's odd. I think it can be both."

She realized she was rambling halfway through that comment and turned her attention back to the sandwich in her hand. It was just cheese, which she thought was also odd, but in a good way. Her eyes fell on the student's badge and on the easy way they presented themselves.

"You know a lot about Sonora, don't you?" Evelyn asked. She tried to keep the desperate jealousy out of her voice and took another swig of juice. "What house do you want to be in?"
