That makes me feel better.

Relief fluttered in Evelyn's chest when Ness assured her that her sudden touch had been alright. She hadn't really thought about the fact that touching people without their permission wasn't really appropriate, which was odd, all things considered. She of all people should know how dreadful it is to be touched when you don't want to be.

"Thank you," she smiled. She wasn't sure whether she should go ahead and hug Ness now or if the offered hug was meant to be a post-conversation comfort. Preferring to play it safe this time, she decided to wait for Ness to initiate the contact.

"I'll talk to Professor Carter," Evelyn said. "She's the Pecari Head of House and I think she seems nice. She seems... I dunno. She seems nice." Then she frowned. "I love my mom... I don't want to go to an orphanage or something... I want to go home sometime. Can I still live with my mom? Are they going to make my dad leave? Or just stop hurting people?"

It hurt to breathe. It hurt to think. It hurt that Evelyn wasn't sure whether she wanted her dad completely gone or just fixed. It hurt to admit all this to herself, let alone to somebody else.

"I hate this."
