Let's go Pecalus!

Though Pecari wasn’t a full team, they weren’t as short as the other houses and for that she was proud. It was only fair to combine where they could, but she still had her position as Seeker. When she’d heard they would be combining teams this year, there had been a momentary inkling of worry.

Hierarchy and age, as she’d come to realise, played a very important part in assigning positions in Quidditch. It wasn’t necessarily about ability, really, but about keeping everyone as happy as possible. As captain, Lily wasn’t certain she would be happy to take that approach – after all, it only made sense that the best person ought to play regardless of how young or old they were. Still, Lily was surprised and pleased that Alistair Johnson hadn’t been assigned as Seeker. It seemed, at least this year, that she was the anomaly and she took the honour very seriously.

Lily hadn’t admitted it before, but she was proud that her brother was captain this year. With the fiasco that had happened the year prior that led to the confusion on who would take Umland’s place, it only seemed right for Jack to take it on. She did, of course, have her own bias so she kept her comments to a minimum.

Lily was rather disappointed that Pecari and Teppenpaw hadn’t combined their teams like the last season this had happened. She didn’t particularly enjoy being on the receiving end of Jozua’s bludgers, but she supposed it couldn’t be helped. They had a game to play and she would do it to the best of her ability.

Once the teams were situated on the pitch, she gripped her broom, feeling excited. There weren’t just two, but four houses represented on the pitch and in the stands. She could feel the adrenaline already pumping in her veins as the referee made his familiar opening statement and the captains gave their short monologue. The noise around them, knowing that all eyes in the stands were on them, made Lily smile. She was determined, this year, to bask in the glory of catching the Snitch. She was no Alistair Johnson – she would be Lily Olivia Spencer, Seeker extraordinaire.

The quaffle was tossed and Lily shot up into the air along with the rest of her team, eyes peeled for the Snitch. It had been a few weeks since she'd ridden a broom last, so her ascent was a bit wobbly. Once she was comfortably seated and higher up, she flew with more ease, glad she didn't have to chase after the quaffle with mostly everyone else. She moved casually around the air, above the bedlam of players, trusting that the Beater protecting her would do their job. She could just hear it now, the crowd shouting her name, Jozua grinning at her proudly, Jack looking gloomy in defeat, her team-mates hauling her up and chanting her name…

Yes, she most certainly could not lose today.
