I just can't wait to be King!

At first, Jasmine was more than a little confused by the presence of . . . basically everybody . . . in her DADA class. Then she was a little concerned by the declaration that Cleo James (who Jasmine didn't know super well, aside from that they were in the same house and only one year apart) was a Veela. But after everyone else left, and the professor explained about Veela, Jasmine was reassured. Her take-away from the whole thing was that Cleo was like a thestral: Kind of spooky and startling if you could see past the surface but basically just a horse. Well, a girl, in Cleo's case. Thanks to the Nashes, Jasmine was aware that some people were less inclined than others to like those of the opposite sex, but she felt pretty confident that she was not one of them, so she felt fairly secure in the knowledge that Cleo offered no threat to herself.

Which in turn made her feel the whole homework exercise was a bit pointless, but she supposed maybe she may need to rescue one of her classmates if an elf or professor didn't get there first (Jasmine was not usually inclined to put herself in the hero role, preferring the older princesses more than the newer ones, but if the neccessity came up she supposed she could be Moana).

So putting herself into the Moana frame of mind, she took her quill out and tried to imagine how Moana would protect her villagers from a beautiful Veela enchantress (who, in her mind, looked a lot more like the enchantress who turned the Prince into the Beast in the prologue of the Beauty and the Beast Disney movie than Cleo).

'Ocean, splash them' was pretty easy to imagine, and corresponded quite well to the first example Professor Hawthorne gave, so she wrote up that paragraph.

To distract a person enchanted by a Veela, you can use water. This could either come from a spell like aguamenti, or just by splashing water on them. Even just offering them a cup of water might be helpful because then they will look at you and break eye-contact with the veela, which is an important way to reduce their power over someone.

Similarly, she continued to write, you could flash something shiny that would draw their eye, or scream, or otherwise just do something that would cause a reflex reaction to look in your direction. Breaking out into a song and dance number would likely do the trick.

Jasmine paused in her writing to tap her quill thoughtfully against her chin. But which song and dance? A whole new world? It was her favorite of the Disney songs, as it was one of the few sung by her namesake, but she wasn't sure it was really a good one to dance to. Tale as Old as Time was a good ballroom dancing song, given that the titular characters in the movie were dancing to it on screen, but it might not be attention grabbing enough. Perhaps 'Topsy Turvy' from Hunchback? That was a good party song, but she wasn't sure she knew all the words.

Oh, of course. "I Just Can't Wait to be King!" she exclaimed aloud as it occurred to her, and bent over her essay, to specify which song and dance routine might be a good option and why, completely unaware how out of place that might sound to her neighbor.
