She was giggling and blushing. Was that good? It might be good. He thought it was quite possibly good, unless it was giggling at him and blushing cos she was feeling awkward about telling him he looked awful. But it didn’t seem like that. She was cute when she blushed. She was cute when she didn’t blush. She was just really, really cute.

He waited for her comments to the kneazle, quite keen to find out what they were, and not out of purely scientific curiosity. Delaying tactics and half truths both got interesting reactions. He flinched though as the kneazle leapt for her.

“I can see why they call you Amber the Valorous,” he commented. “And how you ended up in Aladren. Willing to take a kneazle to the face in the name of research. Pretty impressive.

“Neal?” he asked, eyeing up the kneazle, whom he gathered from context must be the recipient of this name, thus the question was more ‘Why?’ than ‘Who?’

“And uh, thanks,” he added, both to her calling him cute and saying his make up brought out his features. It was his turn to blush a bit. He wasn’t exactly lacking confidence, but it was one thing rattling charity pots on street corners, or shamelessly schmoozing donors, and another having a cute girl call you cute. “I’m sure you’d look nice in it too, though you’re plenty cute enough without. Not that you need validation from guys to make decisions about how you look or are necessarily doing it for that,” he added hastily. Perhaps he should stick to compliments about how she was brave and smart, both of which were true. And, as he had said to the first cat, it took more than a pretty face to keep his interest... “If I work it out, I’ll let you know,” he promised.
