I generally despise arguments that begin, “If we can put a man on the moon, we can do X,” for too many reasons to detail here. But if you like such arguments, you need to pay a bit more respect to the “we” in that sentence.

Liberals have many lofty ambitions for what government can do (most of which I oppose). None of them are possible without inspiring the American people. And such inspiration is impossible without being at least little inspired by America itself.

The left likes to occasionally use the argument “If we can put a man on the moon, we can do X,” as pertaining to government creating heaven on earth via their social programs. That's just nonsense! The human condition precludes that possibility just as the feline condition precludes the possibility of herding cats.

And yes inspiration is a key component to most forms of success. Few things are accomplished without it and the most difficult problems tend to require heaping helpings of inspiration in order to overcome them. Having a bit of pride in one's own abilities, one's organization's abilities, or one's nation's abilities can provide very fertile ground from which inspiration can arise.
