Weekend walks with Hugo
Mon May 14, 2012 3:41pm

Every Saturday morning, when we are home, we usually take Hugo out later in the morning, around 9:30 - 10 am as opposed to on the weekdays when Hugo is out at 7 am.
He loves going out early mornings on weekdays with my husband, he runs on the baseball field (not really allowed, but there are no park rangers that early anyway :)). However, on Saturdays, I seriously feel Hugo is aware it is Saturday and there will be more people walking on streets and even by the beach there will be crowded since it is getting warmer. This past Saturday, he runs out with me at around 10 am, goes right to the grass area where he usually goes, and runs RIGHT back home all within 3 min !! And here is me, in my sneakers, with my headphones, ready to take a long walk with Hugo...))))

Do all of our doodles that sensitive to crowds ? How do we train/teach him or get him used to walks on more crowded streets ? Taking him to more public areas has usually been unpleasant experience for Hugo, maybe I should just give that up not to make him nervous ??

  • if he's nervous around people, he needs more socializing.Nene (Chaser & Cinnamon), Wed May 16 4:25pm
Before you head to the dog parks, leash him up and take him, several weeks, on a dog-food shopping trip to PetSmart, PetCo, Pet-whatever store. That's the easiest place to start.
