Austin's 11th Birthday!

Yes, those are Austin's health problems. The vertigo came about from a severe ear infection he got back in September. Usually a dog will get vertigo around 15 or 15 years of age then its called Vestibular Disease, but if its from an ear infection its just Vestibular Syndrome. But I believe that because the infection was so severe and so deep into the inner ear it left him with permanent vertigo and I also think some hearing loss. Then he began having some strange episodes that weren't typical signs of a seizure. We aren't sure but it may have had something to do with giving him his Nextguard and Heart Guard together, so now I space them out a week apart. He was already on Gabapentin for his arthritis but since it works as a nerve block and an anti seizure we increased the dose to 2 x daily and has been great ever since. The vet and I agreed that rather than stop one thing to see what happens, if this works just stick with it. Luckily, I was able to capture the episodes on video so I was able to show the vet exactly what was happening.

LOL, I can't imagine what would happen if we lived in Colorado, I think Austin would go nuts with all of the weed smell. :). There have been many times when he will go nose to the ground up to a parked car and start going over it bumper to bumper and start scratching. And I didn't even teach him that!

Is it Austin that has those listed health problems? You can hire him out to find weed. :-)
