Post-Op Update On Austin
Sat Sep 30, 2017 12:20pm

Just a quick update on Austin. He just got his staples out yesterday, all 21 of them! Hes been eating better, been out for a couple of walks and upstairs, back to trying to hump me again LOL, but has had some issues with his pain Rx. One of the side effects is dizziness, and with him already having vertigo he's been having a tough time, but after speaking with our vet we decided to take him off of it.

Last night however, I gave him his usual Rx and his Heart Guard but later noticed he seemed like he wasn't feeling all that great, thought maybe he was having some pain so I gave him his pain Rx. About 1:30 a.m. he vomited and I couldn't get him up, so I prepared to take him to the ER but after a few minutes he was able to get up again. I let things settle a bit and then gave him an antinausea Rx and then things got a little better. We think that his Heart Guard was what made him sick to his stomach even though it never has before.

So, on that note, I am going to have to completely change things for him. Bland diet, no treats, no raw hide bones, small, frequent meals, small amounts of water , sedation if/when he has to be put in the car, etc. Its really hard to guage, but from what I've read some dogs develop a very sensitive stomach following surgery for bloat when the stomach is tacked. I wonder if he's just going to be that way.

Has anyone gone through this with their doodles? If so, have you noticed whether nor not they became extremely sensitive? Not sure about the elevated bowls anymore either. Our vet said sometimes its just so hard to tell if or what can trigger bloat.
