I don't Facebook so I know I miss out on a lot. Please say hi to Cathy for me if you have the chance and let her know I am thinking about her. I'm grateful to know she is safe and hope Louisiana stays that way as this historic storm continues to wreak havoc.

I saw photos of the "Cajun Navy" on Twitter and am so proud of them for their bravery and true American spirit. The New Orleans Animal Shelters are taking in a lot of animals and the overflow is coming all the way up here to New England, ... NJ, NYC, so many are doing what they can.

The DH and I are trying to organize some of our local fellow rescue members, training groups, and neighbors in contributing group $ toward one or more of the local animal shelters in Austin, Houston and San Antonio which are doing such amazing work. I've heard donating locally helps more than donating to the ASPCA in general in this case. I know there are so many who are doing so much for the animals and I am heartened although there are still many in jeopardy. I did hear that the shelters need money, fostering and adoptions most of all since people have donated generously in other items such as food etc.

Thank you for letting me know Cathy is okay. I appreciate it very much. I hope you are hanging in there.

Be well,

Maya and the Ws

I am a Facebook friend of Cathy's. I don't think she moved to Houston permanently. She posted on FB yesterday about the "Cajun Navy" going to Texas, and it seems she is living in Louisiana now.
