I believe our society, especially the gen-xers and the millenials who have limited exposure to such experience, may benefit from the kind of selfless behavior being exhibited on behalf of the Houston area right now as you said, inspiring.

A long time ago JFK developed the Peace Corps as a way for our young people to give service in foreign countries, often under hardship, to promote peace and friendship.

Peace and friendship here at home in the US lately sounds like a thing of the past with all the negativity in the news. The courage and sacrifice of the first responders, civilian rescuers, everyday people helping out and those pitching in from all over is evidence that we are still the United States of America.

Opportunists exist in all life forms. For folks with integrity it's incomprehensible and I'm with you in the disbelief but it's a kind of jaded disbelief that makes me shake my head and hope there's such a thing as karma.
