Canine Flu -- anyone else have it in their areas?

Here in SW Ohio, there are some cases of Canine Flu, but supposedly not serious. Maxwell has been going to doggy daycare from time to time, and we have been told he must have both a flu shot and a booster by the end of this year or he won't be able to go back.

Shortly after that, Max went to daycare one day and started coughing. This place (amazing all in one location. Vet, store, trainers, daycare. Great concept!) also has vets on staff, so they asked if we wanted the vet to look at Max. Mild temp, congested. Sent home from school with antibiotics. Could have been a kindergartner for all of that! I asked if it was the flu and they said probably just congestion. He was not to play with any dogs for 2 weeks until his antibiotics were finished. For a bouncy puppy, 2 weeks is a long time.

He stopped coughing after just 2 days on his meds, then finished the 2 weeks. He had just finished his antibiotics when the daycare decided they were getting too many coughing dogs, and are closing for TWO WEEKS. Now Max has had no playmates for Four Weeks. And oh how he likes to roll and tumble with other puppies! We just can't do it the way other puppies can. The day care place says they think everyone has kennel cough. Every dog there has to have the bordattela vaccine before they can attend. Who knows how they all picked it up.

Now just today I heard that a number of dog daycare places in this area are closing for a few days due to the flu.
