Soogee and Doc
It makes my heart so sad to hear of
Mon Dec 4, 2017 9:38pm

another of The Zoo's Old Timers passing on. They leave behind a legacy of such deep love, one that creates a wound so deep and raw that healing in itself seems impossible. I know. I have been there. I am still trying to climb back into the sunshine. Their absence leaves us trying to come to grips that one we loved so deeply has been taken from us. I have always wondered why an animal that is capable of bonding so strongly with the family or person that openly shares its soul can be given a life that so falls short of a number that we can deal with in human years. It sometimes feels like punishment to give everything we have to be stripped bare of the love and company of a life we worked so hard to nurture. It's so unfair. They say that to enjoy and grow that kind of love takes walking through the deepest storm to protect, can end so fast. Can fall so hard that getting up from the ground seems senseless. Why? I have seen and know many that just will not do it again. Their pain is so bad they will not allow another life to enter their circle. Why would someone deny themselves the chance to again cultivate one of the most enjoyable relationships known to man (and women)? My Mort was like this. He did not want another dog. To him the loss was so great and painful. But I persisted. Enter Doc and then Nutmeg. It didn't take long before he was turning to me telling me that these were the first dogs of ours that he kissed. This is true. So many times he would remind me that he kissed these dogs. It was as if he came to life again and was no longer sorry I told him I was getting anther dog. He bonded even stronger to those dogs.

I am so sorry for your loss. Because you have loved so strongly and was able to grow with your dogs, they will live forever within your heart. Keep moving forward. Keep pushing through. The sun is still up in the sky just waiting for you to step out from under the cloud and again feel the warmth. Carry her within your heart and you will never be lonely. I am sorry for your loss.
