Ozzie was tethered to me constantly from day 1 arrival. I took him out everyy 20-30 min or so for "go PeePee" and when it happened I lost my mind and bombarded him with treats. He had absolutely no free range in the house until I was confident that he would either go to the door or wait until I took him out. When I took a shower, he went in his crate. He was never alone. If I saw him start to sniff or squat, I grabbed him up and took him out. There were a couple of accidents, mostly my fault..but unless I caught him in the act he got a pass and the area got a squirt of that spot-erase stuff. It took about 6 weeks until I was totally confident. He did not sleep in my bed until he was several months old. I really don't like those pee-pads either. They stink. However since she has started potty training on those, I would take them outside for pee and gradually eliminate them from the process. This is the worst part of puppy hood. But it goes by really fast if one is consistent, and like you say, doesn't allow pup to fail!
