Can dogs get too much attention? Little Miss

Ellie is very full of herself lately and acting like a little brat. We have had landscapers and some flooring guys at the house for the last several days and they all make over the pups, pet them, and generally lavish attention on them. Roo is his usual steady self. Ellie, however, has become a little impudent. She isn't coming reliably when I call her and just stands there looking at me until I make several demands for her to come. I think she has let all the attention go to her fluffy little head. I have started only giving treats for a command and not petting her or talking to her when SHE wants, instead giving attention when I choose.

She has started to challenge Roo for certain toys and has even growled at him several times in the evening when she is laying at my feet and Roo gets too close. He isn't letting her run the show, but she sure is having a go at it.

I hate to withhold attention, but I really feel like she has started this bit of defiance only since everyone has been making over her and she's let it go to her head.

in Ellie's behavior since I first posted. No more "breathing treats." I love that term, lol, and needed the reminder. DH and I are both guilty of handing out treats just because. When we moved to the ... more
