and not shy about expressing her opinion. I found it a bit startling at first, but soon came to realize she wasn't trying to be offensive or rude, she was just very blunt. Anna says she enjoys cooking and cooks often with her mom. She was also expected to help her mother with housework, etc. and says she expects to help here as well. She has her own bathroom and of course bedroom so I told her that she could take care of those. She specifically asked if we could all sit down and eat together because she misses that. Broke my heart. I know Vera said to not stress over what she likes to eat, but I still will feel better when I taker her to the grocery with me for the first time so I will have an idea of what I should be cooking. She was describing "long beans" that she likes, but demonstrated that they were about 4-6 inches long so I wonder if she was describing asparagus. We were going through the freezer and I always have lots of frozen veggies because they are so easy. She didn't care for any that I showed her, so we'll have to figure that out. We eat lots and lots of brussels sprouts and broccoli, but she said those are the "worst", lol. She really does seem like such a nice young lady and assured me many times that she didn't expect us to change how we do things because she wants to experience a different culture to the fullest which is exactly what Vera told me she felt Anna would want.

Anna is not a fan of dogs, but I told her she didn't have to allow them in her room if she didn't want to, but I have a feeling she will learn to be more comfortable with Roo and Ellie. Thanks for telling me about your experience.

I kind of feel like this is one of those things that was just meant to happen. Alan has been off the grid, hunting in Colorado for the last week and a half, and I knew I wouldn't hear from him for at least another week so I told the program coordinator I couldn't give her a decision until Alan returned because we needed to discuss this together. He called me unexpectedly yesterday morning so we had a chance to talk about it. I knew he would be fine with hosting again because it was a good experience 10 years ago, but I wanted to ask him first. As I expected, he said yes! I also told him I almost brought a kitten home and he said NO KITTEN. Exchange student sure, kitten a big, fat no.

I'm sure I'll be updating!

We also had a German exchange student about 10 years ago. It was wonderful. I'm excited for you! And what a great adventure for Seth as well! I'd love to do it again, but DH is retired now and wants... more

you know, I would suggest she tries anything before saying she doesn't like it. I suppose this is what she will do anyway. Veggies are not that different. Beans ARE different, so she doesn't mean... more
