We had a golden who had a mast cell tumor removed from his -

From his leg at age 2. The Seeing Eye had to retire him right then, and gave him to us fully healed and said he might only live 2 more years. He died at 15 yrs of age. What we know is that mast cell is very aggressive. It can return, most likely on a leg.
We had a wonderful vet who checked him every 6 months and after 3 years told us that if it hadn’t recurred, which it hadn’t, it wasn’t going to. I burst into tears.
In the course of getting to know a fully trained Seeing Eye dog, I have come to the conclusion that it is an enormously stressful job for the dogs. When I put a harness on him, his entire body would tighten and straighten and he would be ‘on guard’. It didn’t look like fun, even though he was clearly proud of the ‘work’ he as doing. Interesting.
Good luck to you. -S
