It kinda' depends on the coat, so a picture of Palmer would help. With Sundog, I cut at a 45 degree angle just below the inside of the eye to get it out of her eyes. Then I use thinning shears at angles going up with the hair over her eyes to thin it and create eyeholes. Barney is curlier, so I still cut the same 45 angle at the inside of his eyes and then just trim his drunken eyebrows as I see fit. It also helps to trim the stop a bit too, as was suggested. Then you can do with the nose as you wish. I scissor trim the nose, because both Barney's and Sundog's sticks way up, but if it lays down, you can just stop with the previous cuts I described.
