Another way to keep your dog stimulated is to feed her using treat-dispensing toys. I almost never use a bowl to give my dog food. I have about five different food dispensing toys and I rotate them. They have to work for their food. Also sometimes I freeze canned food and give it to them as a "popsicle" so it takes them an hour or so to eat it. That's a special treat for hot days. Another idea, if you have the time, is to put your dog in a sit-stay, hide about five pieces of kibble somewhere in the room and then release her and say "find the food." Once she sniffs out the food and eats it you can put her in another stay and hide more food. Repeat until her ration of food is gone. It takes a while but I'll be she'll love it. Great for days when it is too hot to go out. I'll bet Bonnie is right - boredom may make it more likely she will lick.
