Impaired sense of smell?
Tue Nov 23, 2010 04:26

Does anyone have experience with a dog with an impaired sense of smell? I have a dog with significant allergies and his nose is stuffed up much of the time. He sneezes a lot. He is on antihistimines, which help, but they don't clear him up completely. I assume that it works the same way for dogs as it does for humans - if your nose is stuffed up you don't smell as well. The reason I ask is because this dog seems to rely on his eyes more than other dogs. For example, he is afraid of strangers, but he walked right up to the identical twin of someone he knows and is comfortable with. Obviously they look alike. I'm not sure if twins smell alike to dogs too.

Also, while I'm at it, does anyone have experience with acupuncture for allergies for Schnauzers? I'm trying to get this poor little guy some relief from his allergies and I am willing to try accupuncture if it might work.
