Re: phantom tail docking pain?
Mon Jan 9, 2012 00:05

Have you been able to take her to a vet while she's having an episode or immediately afterwards? That would probably enable them to give the best answer.

I'd guess she might be having a muscle spasm in her back or neck. If she pulls when going for walks, try using a harness instead of a collar. Avoid having her be able to run and jump when you can't keep an eye on her. I had a small terrier who probably threw herself around my apartment when I was gone one day, because when I got home from work, she had a very painful neck. She loved to jump up into the bay window and probably got down "the hard way."

I know of people who take their dog-sports dogs to physical therapists, chiropractors and acupunturists. They are enthusiastic about these practitioners' abilities to locate the achy areas and treat them.

If your dog had her tail docked when she was a pup, I would doubt it has anything to do with her current problems.

Another thought--Is she spayed? It could be a hormonal problem/false pregnancy.

Panting can also be a sign of heart problems. In my unfortunate experience, it is a different kind of panting behavior from what you see due to either heat or pain. I'd think your vets would have noticed if she had heart issues, though.

Good luck--I hope you'll come back and tell us if you get answers and help for her! {{{}}}
