Frankly, that idea is almost as dumb--and, in order to effectively implement as time-consuming and costly--as the wall itself. There is no wall that cannot be gotten over or tunneled under if people are determined and desperate enough. There are no such "simple but logical" answers here. You're dreaming. The problem is too monumental.

I honestly do not get people like yourself and Sheriff Crazy Fascist Joe, not to mention the Orange Clown himself, who clearly are so paranoid and over-reactive with respect to immigrants that they are willing to suspend not only all rational proportion and perspective, but habeas corpus as well, turn America into some sort of police state--it already is a national security state--in order to address the problem. And it is, granted, a problem. Just not as pressing a problem as you and others seem to fixate on and fantasize about. The sky is not falling owing to illegal immigration. Get a grip.

The first thing to understand is that there is no failsafe solution to the problem. Be it a wall, or beefing up the border patrol, or expanding the budget of Homeland Security and ICE, or installing certain high-tech measures along the southern border, or even all of the fore-mentioned in concert, while--expense aside--you might expect that sort of stuff to have an impact, how much of an impact is entirely problematic. The most one can hope is to plug some of the more obvious holes as best one can. And even then.

That is not an argument for doing nothing. It is an argument for being smart, for doing the right thing(s), for re-introducing some degree of both cost-efficiency and rational thought into a discussion that at this point has been hijacked by a bunch of either pass-the-buck do-nothings or paranoid loudmouths, the loudest of all being the thin-skinned, narcissistic, sociopathic, reptilian creature who slithers about the oval office looking for who to fire next. By cowardly tweet.

In the meantime, pass damn DACA already. Absolutely no excuse for not doing so.
