Kellen Mormont
Making the best of it
Sat Jan 14, 2017 03:04

Kellen was surprised that Farrah had been the first to speak, but was even more surprised to see how the older boys in their group reacted to her. He knew Farrah was brilliant and had great ideas, and shouldn’t have been surprised that other people noticed, but he didn’t like how they were gesturing and smiling at her. Then Arne offered to work with her on the creature portion and Kellen’s stomach knotted up. He felt like he was going to be sick, and wrapped his arms around himself to try and calm down. He wasn’t sure why he was feeling this way, but he suddenly wanted no part of this. Not if he was going to have to watch Arne the Quidditch stud and Clark the giant genius fawn over his friend. The Aladren tried to recall his coping techniques, and tried to take a few deep breaths as nonchalantly as possible as he tried to regain his composure.

Farrah was in this because of him, he couldn’t just rage quit because other people were being nice to her. That wasn’t fair, Kellen knew. They were all on the same team, and he needed to try and add to the group instead of causing drama--even if it was all in his head.

The second year perked up a little as he could have sworn he heard Clark mutter something about Hobbiton. The Māori were interesting, for sure, and magical animals were cool. He also thought the diverse geographical features of New Zealand would be fun to learn more about, but Kellen was a nerd at heart, and he’d signed up for the group because of it’s ties to Middle Earth.

“I like the idea of everyone kind of working on one aspect and then collaborating where there are overlaps.” Kellen said finally. The group was half Aladren, so he felt like they had something to prove by covering as much as possible, and maybe it wasn’t the best approach to a group project, but Kellen was a bit of a loner after all.

“I thought it might be cool to cover some of the things New Zealand is famous for. Like notable people who were born there. Sir Edmund Hillary who was the first to reach the peak of Mt. Everest, Manu Bennett who is part Māori ...Peter Jackson.” Kellen trailed off, looking to Clark for approval before turning his attention to the next person in their group.
