Otherwise, agree with your post for the most part. However, I think we're already past the tipping point. As we have passed, or will shortly pass, peak oil, fossil fuel usage will continue to get dirtier (i.e. coal). In addition, world population will continue to increase, at least until 2030 or 2040.

Any steps that we take to reduce global warming will be insignificant and probably only delay its' effects by less than 10 years at the most.

The most we can do is prepare for the inevitability of the effects, i.e. by moving populations out of harms way. But I doubt that there is the political will to do so.
