No "chain of custody" protecting samples would lend itself to all sorts of mischief... and who knows what years of sitting on a shelf, unprotected from sunlight, etc that samples were exposed to? I wouldn't want MY reputation or legacy to depend on it... would you?

      where the sample has degraded over time and the results are no longer reliable. guess it all depends on what they are testing for.
