When I Was A Teacher...
Tue Feb 1, 2011 13:17 a rural district in Texas, we got a transfer student who had been pulled out of an inner-city Houston public school. She had already been held back one year, so she was 14 or so when she came into my class.

I had her for English, and after the first day of class, she stayed past the bell. I thought she was going to ask about what she had missed or some other question related to being transferred in. Instead, she said, very matter of factly, "I will do anything you want if you will give me an A in this class."

I assured her that she had the same requirements as all the other students, and she looked disappointed. She said, "Back in Houston, I was able to trade sex for As in three of my classes." She sounded proud of the achievement.

Needless to say, I reported the offer to the administration. However, after later finding out what kind of person the principal was, I am not sure that she didn't make some kind of arrangements with him.
