William Buckley on Ayn Rand & Atlas Shrugged Merlin, Sat Apr 16, 2011 17:39
William Buckley made a profound and insightful observation during an interview with Charlie Rose: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KmPLkiqnO8 That while her novels and non-fiction expositions of her philosophy were good food for thought, they left a bad taste on the intellectual palate of most thinking people, because... more
I just had to laugh today.OldCM, Thu Apr 14, 2011 16:05
I was over on NewsVine and somebody posted this: "If Christ were to return today, half of the Christians wouldn't recognize him, and the other half would nail him up again." I posted, "True. They would be afraid of the homeless guy roaming the streets of town." LOL.

... http://www.newsvine.com/ or not but I find it an interesting site. You have to join up and then comment on news stories others or yourself have linked (they call it "seeded") to the site. If you have any experience with it, what is your opinion of it? I'm still a newbie there and trying to find my way around.

... every day by the ultra-conservatives on MSNBC as guest talking heads. They are so full of BS. If tax cuts for the wealthiest could improve hiring then we wouldn't have so many unemployed people. Glenn, on the R&E board, suggested a global minimum wage. I've got news for him. The ultra-conservatives are trying... more

Heard this on The Early Show on CBS. The US is considering hitting pro-government forces with air power. I've said it before and I'll say it again, "not our fight". It's too bad the rebels are being decimated. But bad things happen to good people all the time.

What do you think about interfaith projects? Are they worthwhile? What should their focus be? What about atheism in this context? Should interfaith projects seek to include atheism? Should atheist organizations generate interfaith projects? I'm just full of questions this morning! Uru

Acu*Rite indoor/outdoor wireless thermometer. It is at least 4 degrees off almost all the time. I have a much older indoor/outdoor thermometer, the kind with a wire lead that goes out the window. This morning, the wireless one said 32 degrees (F), while the old one said 28 degrees (F). It was 28 degrees not 32.... more

  • CFL light bulbs are a hoax!OldCM, Tue Mar 1, 2011 08:36
I installed one on 03/11/2010. It said it was rated for 8000 hours. It burned out (at night of course) on 02/28/2011. Did not last even half of it's rated hours. Baloney! And the government wants to phase out the regular incandescent bulbs in a year or so. Guess I'll have to stock up on them before then. And the price ... more

Note, however, that Gorbachev had a port wine birthmark on his head. As a topic for speculation, note that in her introduction to her song where she mentions the many roles of women, she does NOT include "husbands" - but the song is about her child.
