Why hide from me? I'm delightful!

Pamela wasn’t giving Charline the reaction she was looking for. On the one hand she appeared intimidated by Charline but the other girl began to look increasingly uncomfortable the longer the Lyra continued the one sided conversation. Pamela did not defend herself or offer any insight to her strange taste in clothing or her scarred appearance. She merely stood there averting her eyes from view. Charline was bemused by her actions and was sure Pamela must be finding something terribly fascinating about her shoes.

" have enough money to buy food..."

She had to strain her ears to catch the words Pamela was stuttering so quietly. Whether it was a refusal or a weak attempt to save her pride Charline did not know. Regardless she decided to go along with Pamela’s charade for now to make her feel more at home. “Silly me, of course you do,” she said offering the silent girl a pitying smile followed by a wink, “but it would be my treat and we don’t have to tell everyone I paid. Pretty please?”

Pamela probably did not wish to admit just how severe her circumstances were and that was alright with Charline. She had spent enough time playing make believe with her brother when they were younger to know the rules of the game.

It was only shortly after she had finished speaking that she took notice of the new arrival. Without much hesitation she accepted the jacket and wrapped it tightly around her shoulders. It seemed to be of fine quality and there was no denying that he was the perfect gentleman. Had his words been spoken by a certain dark haired boy she might have blushed. As it was she stared at him somewhat arrogantly with the knowledge that she was pretty and there was no reason he shouldn't compliment her. Once she was feeling nice and snug she responded appropriately with,“Danke.”

Extending her right hand forwards she offered it to him. The third year took the opportunity to introduce herself, “Charline Adler, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” She had not thought he was familiar and so when he did reveal that he was new, for she assumed he must be an RMI student, it all made perfect sense. “That’s fabulous, isn’t it Pamela? Pamela is new too, she just transferred this term. You two will have so much to talk about.”

Swiveling around to face the other girl she focused her full attention on her, “You know he’ll just have to join us now! Unfortunately I don’t know this Muggle street very well. Do either of you know of a good place to eat in?” She prayed that it was not Pamela who came up with the first suggestion. Who knew what sort of establishments she would want to spend time in. She dreaded to imagine the cobweb ridden shacks and dusty warehouses were people squabble over crumbs. Just the thought made her shiver.
