Benjamin Adler
Outside my comfort zone

Appearance had always been vital. The way one dressed and carried themselves allowed others to make an immediate judgement on their character. Benjamin was use to failed attempts at impressing his Papa’s work colleagues, however he felt as though he was letting President Lyubov down a little too much. Therefore he made an extra effort in selecting his Muggle outfit for the bowling event. He felt uncomfortable in the strange clothing but was convinced the overall look was dashing.

Orange was one of his favourite colours and the large lumpy sweater gave a cheerful effect. He had paired it with some faded jeans and the most marvelous yellow rubber boots. Wellingtons they were called. And wasn’t that just the funniest name in the world? His hair, which had previously been kept short and slicked back, had grown out and sprang forth in a haze of dark curls. He had loyally followed the President’s advice and proudly pinned a name badge below his collarbone. Before he departed the Draco stared at himself in the mirror and grinned, “You is ze handsomest.”

Pearl Street was new to him and the Second Year was tempted to slip off and forget this bowl thing altogether for the chance to explore the Muggle street. However, he could not be sure how dangerous the area was and none of the Professors were making it easy to sneak away. His enthusiasm was limited as he helped set everything up but he did take the opportunity to question some of the other representatives about bowling. They had to knock down pins with the balls. He didn’t know what pins were but at least the bowling balls were not entirely alien to him.

He grabbed some of the odd looking shoes being handed out by the President and a frightening Muggle boy, who had metal jutting out of his face. How on earth could that be comfortable? The image made him visibly shudder.

Rather than swapping his wellies for the practical shoes he shoved his hands inside them and slumped down at an empty table so muddle over the mysterious bowling game first. With a bored expression creeping onto his face Benjamin knocked his hands (which remained trapped inside the shoes) together repeatedly.

Click, click, click.

This continued for a minute or so before the bowling shoes were hastily dropped on the table. Benjamin then frowned to himself and without warning leaped forward, with the intention of latching on to the nearest person. “You knows about ze bowls?”

There was both an air of determination and slight desperation in his voice as his bright blue eyes searched the other student intently, waiting for answers.
