That's perfectly fine.

As the stranger seated himself across from her, Olivia bit her lip, unsure of what she was supposed to do in this situation. She was not particularly obtrusive in general, and behind a wall of books, it made sense to have not noticed her, but the awkwardness of her presence rendered the situation nearly unbearable. She wondered at how to escape, but the only way out that came to mind was slowly and quietly sliding out of her chair and crawling, but she could definitely not do that.

She thought maybe-... “Mon Dieu!” Well, too late. He had spotted her. Now it was just embarrassing for both of them, and the fifth year felt a blush rising in her cheeks as he exclaimed in French. “ My apologies. I mean to say that I did not see you there. Please forgive my intrusion upon your presence,” said the boy, a strong accent pointing to French origins.

“Oh, um, you’re fine,” she offered with obvious apprehension, remnants of Yorkshire in her voice despite years of living Stateside with Aunt Ava and Uncle Blake and attending an American school. It had faded some in this time, but it remained a firm reminder of her background, though to an untrained ear its specifics beyond “United Kingdom” a mystery. Olivia imagined France might have had some sectionalism as well, beyond her ear’s recognition. That, however, was hardly the foremost of her thoughts at the moment.

While Olivia was always a bit on the awkward side, this situation was probably her shining moment in the field. “You are, uh, welcome to stay here. I mean, in at this table.” The redness of her cheeks remained potent, as if painted there by an invisible artist with cruel intentions. She almost preferred not being seen at all to being seen like this!

A pale finger played idly with brunette curls. Now that they were talking—sort of?—Olivia figured the only thing to do was introduce herself. This did not, however, negate her discomfort in doing so. “Um… So... I’m Olivia?” It was obviously a statement, though it came out bearing a question’s inflection. “Are you new?” A stupid inquisition perhaps, but at least it was intended to be inquisitive.
