One of Zakir’s least favorite activities out of an admittedly long list was study hall. For such a studious child study hall should have been a boon, a free two hours twice a week to devote to his studies. Unfortunately for him, and for the staff who failed to recognize the truth, this was not the case. No, Study hall was a time for miscreants who never studied to annoy those students who did. They would talk, throw things when they thought the Librarian wasn’t looking, eat and in general do anything and everything besides study.
Zakir remembered one of his very first study hall experiences, where that wretched mudblood female had charmed a book to attack him and then cast a second spell that shredded the book on top of him. That was just one more instance where the female had gotten away with such recklessness with out penalty. Even when she assaulted other students all she received was detention. Zakir had no idea how she was permitted to continue attending when it was clear that she was a threat to all around her. Well, at least he didn’t have to worry about being harassed during study hall by her seems she was a fourth year and no longer required to attend.
Arriving early, Zakir set up his desk with everything he needed to finish his Magical Sciences essay while the rest of the first, second, and third years shuffled into the room. The Librarian’s demand phrased as a request made Zakir glare at her. There was the sound of seats being pushed back and the chatter of children as they began filing out. Zakir remained seated, not wanting to move from his accustomed study hall seat. But when brightly colored bubbles began filling the air, he quickly returned his belongings to his bag and with one last glower at the woman he went and found an empty table out in the library to work.
For the second time he got everything arranged to his liking when the chair right next to him was suddenly pulled out. Zakir turned and gave the student a baleful glare at having invaded his table. There were plenty of other places to sit.
