Slender dark fingers rolled up the ruined assignment. He would have to re-write it tomorrow during breakfast. Mentally he began reshuffling his work load to accommodate the unexpected as he slipped the parchment into his bag before retrieving his DADA text book to get the reading portion of his work done. Zakir didn’t dare attempt anything written with the hellion next to him, it was just asking for more of his work to be destroyed.
He’d finished the third page of reading, and his fingers itched for his quill and parchment to take notes when pain flared up in his ankle. Zakir gave a sharp hiss as his eyes jerked up to the boy seated next to him, a hair tie stretched out between his hands for some inexplicable reason. Furious words nearly leapt out of his mouth but then Seth turned his head slightly in Zakir’s direction. Blue-grey eyes twinkled with evil mirth and Seth’s eyes quickly darted to Aerin before returning to him, the smirk grew as Zakir’s own eyes widened slightly in understanding.
Zakir bit his tongue as surpassed anger burned him instead of the filth next to him. Oh he understood alright, Seth wanted Zakir to sharpen his tongue on him. Then Aerin would yell at him again for being cruel, even though the other boy deserved every hateful word he ached to speak. Normally the thought of being yelled at by Aerin wouldn’t bother him in the least, she often yelled at him. But, for some reason having her turn away from him in favor of the idiot creature next to him had actually hurt. Nonsense, she is not my friend, who she consorts with is none of my concern he tried to tell himself, but the words sounded hollow, and even though his ankle ached a bit from the kick he didn’t yell at the other boy and court Aerin’s wrath further.
Determined to ignore anything the mudblood filth tried to do to get him into further trouble, Zakir returned his dark gaze to the book in front of him. Something rolled into his narrowed field of vision and it took a second for the flare of anger at this newest aggravation to fade enough for him to realize that it hadn’t come from Seth’s direction, but from Aerin’s.
His sable gaze snapped up to stare at the girl, wondering if she had decided to truly join Seth in bothering him. Reluctantly Zakir reached out and picked up the harmless looking ink cap as though it might bite him. Seth’s snicker made him clench his teeth but he refused to acknowledge the other boy as he nudged the cap back over to Aerin’s side of the table, still uncertain of her motives.
