Well, that's okay. I am too.

Inevitably and unsurprisingly, Olivia had screwed everything up.

She knew she had done it when he stepped away. His touch suddenly absent, she felt as alone as she had ever been. It was solitude in a crowded room, like an invisible onlooker. Life went on all around her, but for her there was nothing, isolation imposed by perpendicular timelines. And the stillness died suddenly, replaced by movement in the wrong direction, hands of the clock going against their normal inclination.

”Worthless!” her father bellowed, bouncing off the walls, echoes like separate entities, as if the walls shouted back in agreement. The manor itself seemed to loathe her, dripping with the hatred it had absorbed over the years. Another verbal blow, another mental shudder—everyday was the same.

It was always her father’s voice that came back to her in these times, a shrill ringing in her ears. Never did she recall her mother spewing hate, but nor she could recall a time where her mother offered love. She had been an enabler, a bystander. The brunette held no contempt for her—or for her father either, really—but had spent innumerable nights awake wondering what exactly her mother thought of her.

How had she messed up so grandly with her parents? Aunt Ava always said it was not her fault, that the error and blame was her parents’, but was it really? Now Demitri hated her too, and this was her fault, so maybe that had been too. She could feel the coldness of his words; he was detaching, running away while standing still. And here was Olivia, both chasing him away and running behind.

“No, please!” The words fell numbly from her lips, bursting without her consent, shaken by the urge to fall to pieces. A gloved hand reached out desperately to capture his, to make him stay just a little while longer. The Draco was not sure she could mend the situation, but she could not watch him leave now. “I-I didn’t mean-…” She stopped abruptly, choking on the lump in her throat. “I didn’t mean to upset you. I’m sorry, I-I just-.. I don’t know. Please don’t go.”
