Copeland Henkes [Cetus]
Whatever you say
Sun Jun 16, 2013 17:20

Copeland Henkes had had high hopes when he came to RMI last year. Magic school was gonna be different than normal school. Tripp always talked about RMI the way a four-year-old girl who wanted to be a princess talked about Disney World. It was supposed to be some great magical legendary thing.

Well, that was what he’d expected anyway.

Instead, it was just like normal school. They had to write papers and memorize test material. Magical Sciences was as hard as normal science; Cultural Studies was basically history. Potions was fine when he had instructions, and he liked Herbology when they were actually working with the plants, but he sucked at memorizing things. The only class Copeland was even a little good at was Spellwork, and now Professor Philpott had retired or whatever and the fortune-telling professor had taken over his class.

Cope had spent most of his first year at RMI feeling awkward and homesick. Rialto was fine as a roommate but he missed his real friends in Sheridan. Quidditch was great, but being a reserve wasn’t, and he’d loved getting to play football over the summer. He hadn’t even wanted to come back to RMI at the end of August, but here he was.

Defense was okay sometimes, and Professor Miles was all right. Cope tried to listen carefully to the lecture, but he was pretty sure they’d covered Disarming last year, and his mind wandered like a herd of buffalo. He was wondering who owned the moon (was it the US? Or did all the countries sort of own it equally?) when another student said something to him. Cope jumped a little, running a hand over his short brown buzz cut, and hoped they’d asked if he wanted to partner with them. “Uh, sure,” he answered. That was probably the right thing to say. He couldn’t think of anything that bad he could agree to during Defense, anyhow.
