Calix Panos
A Bit of Angry Flying
Tue Oct 5, 2010 23:26

Red. That's all he saw. Calix was barely aware of the hard wood clenched in his hands, the bright sun burning into his back causing droplets of sweat to slide down his skin. A hard knot that had always been there, seemed to have expanded in his chest and it would not unfurl. It only grew bigger and bigger and bigger. His chest felt so tight, he could barely breathe.

'I need air.'

He swam in it, tightly wrapped around his broom as he soared through currents of invisible waves. He brought himself higher and higher and higher before letting the broom tilt down and drop. Closing his eyes he imagined how wonderful it would be to fly on his own, no need for a broom.

'And how wonderful it would be to just fall.'

How? How could that stupid ignorant practically blind coach have chosen him as a reserve? He was better. He had performed better. There was passion in his performance, he lived to be beater and it had all been taken away from him.

'Girls.' He thought with disgust. 'I was passed over for a bunch of girls.'

Sweat slid down from his temple, running down the length of his nose before free falling off his face. He imagined it evaporating in the air before hitting the ground. Disappearing between a molecule here, a molecule there. He wished he was small. No bigger than a bead of sweat.

He leaned down parallel to his broom and sped off, heading towards the stands, imagining himself crashing, his body flattening against the sheer bulk of steel.

'Closer... closer... closer...'

He pulled up. There was a brief moment of cool shade before the sun was back to burning him. Sweat matted his shaggy dark brown hair, his patchy barely-there beard felt scratchy. Calix' muscles were straining, and his tense leg jerked as his calf cramped. He headed for the ground, landing neatly onto the clear cut grass. Throwing the broom away from him angrily (it had failed to meet his needs) he looked up to see a person watching him.

"What?" He snapped.

Calix looked at the new girl with undisguised disgust on his face. The obvious sympathy in her voice, the apology in her expression... did she think he was weak? That he'd need coddling? Oh, how he... more

In some ways, Calix preferred muggle methods. There was something much more liberating in engaging in hand to hand combat. The pounding of flesh upon flesh, nails scraping skin, fists grazing jaws,... more
