Darla wasn't exactly the type to vent out her problems and troubles to people. It was a sign of weakness, at least in her mind, so she tried to keep it in. It wasn't exactly like she had had many people to vent to anyway. But having Matt here, being able to feel her pain, was more comforting than anything.

The rain was still pelting them, washing her sorrow away slowly, or at least the physical remainders of it, and she took in a deep, shuddering breath. The cool air was sweet and smelled fresh. Rain always made everything look like new.

Pulling away, she took another deep breath. "Thanks for the offer," she told him sincerely. "I'm really glad you were here." With anyone else, she would have felt really uncomfortable because they could see her in her full distress, and she felt like they would judge her. Matt couldn't see her, but he could feel her pain without seeing her muddy clothes and tears, and she felt like that was more of a comfort than anything. He could sincerely comfort her.

She breathed a little laugh. "Best we get out of the rain soon. You wouldn't want to catch a cold," she said, sniffing. Her voice sounded a little throaty now, but she was done crying. Death was just something she had to accept. It was so hard, but...time would heal her pain. She'd just have to comfort her poor grandmother.

"I'm probably going to have to take a trip to England soon to see my grandmother. Last I heard, she was in tatters." Darla was glad she wasn't torn apart by this now, thanks to Matt.
