First things first: we must be seeking a bludger
Thu Mar 10, 2011 15:40

She nodded in agreement, somehow unsurprised by his reply but still relieved. While plans were always a good idea, they were, in her experience, never followed. It was just a fact of life. Planning required jumping to conclusions for every scenario, where real skill lay in jumping to solutions instead, solutions that could be thought up on the spot and modified as it became necessary. If she and Calix could get to the point of being able to improvise as a team, itíd give them so much more flexibility on the pitch. Or so she was hoping.

Swinging a leg over her broom, she kicked off after he released the bludger, smiling at the feel of fresh air blowing past her face. Her eyes followed the bludgerís path as she pulled up beside him. ďIíve never done it either. So, yeah, letís just start.Ē

As he moved ahead, she leaned forward as well but twisted sideways, guiding her broom to bend in a gentle loop above and around him. She smoothly turned along the side of the pitch and flew parallel to him. He seemed to be aiming his broom to chase after the bludger, and she subconsciously shifted her grip on her own bat. Her old broom was clearly not liking the idea, but after a momentís struggle with it she was able to push it to move faster, which put her at an angle slightly in front of Calix. Though she left the handle of her broom pointed straight ahead as an indicator that she was giving him access to the bludger first. Not because she didnít want to go after it; it was more a matter of him having moved for the bludger before her, and now with that intention clear, she was willing to follow his lead.

She watched him closely from the corner of her eye, keeping tabs on the motions of everything else around them at the same time. Elly was definitely within range, so if Calix got to the bludger soon, he could send it her way and might even be able to hit her before she even noticed. But as their only target, Elly was also pretty much guaranteed to be watching them, so he might decide to take some evasive action and hit it back to her instead. She grinned at the thought. Evasive maneuvers were the one thing Raffaele had let them plan out entirely, direct action being only useful to an extent. Depending on the situation, of course. Alert and ready to move the instant he did, she turned to look at Calix more directly for a moment while she tried to guess what his next move would be.
