Hyana was extremely excited for Quidditch practices from now on. Honestly, she just felt better about it than she did last year. Elly was going to be captain, and she thought her friend was great for the job. Hyana never planned on going for captain, ever. She was too quiet for something like that. Plus, she doubted anyone else on the team would pay attention to her, especially Hector. Elly, though, had everything Hyana didn’t. She was an excellent leader and demanded everyone’s attention.

It was going to be a good season.

The sophomore walked onto the Pitch and smiled at everyone. She was really happy with the team. She knew everyone on it, more or less, and that was comforting to the introverted Keeper. Seeing Patrick on the team was also really good to see. She liked the new Chaser; he was fun to talk to at Elly’s party.

Once Elly started talking, Hyana pulled her hair up into a ponytail and nodded. Grab the uniform later, got it. Get up to the hoops now, got it. She grinned and pushed into the air, getting to the hoops quickly. She tightened her gloves around her wrists and watched Gabriel talk to the other Chasers. He held up three fingers, and that made her laugh a little to herself.

Silly Gabriel, Hyana knew what the Chaser plays and signals were by now.

As expected, the three shot towards her. Seeing that Gabriel had the Quaffle, she ignored him and focused on the other two. Since he held up three fingers, there were obviously going to be two passes. The third person who had the Quaffle was the Chaser Hyana needed to worry about. Gabriel passed and turned to block Hyana’s view a little, but that was okay. She didn’t need to worry about him. She caught a glimpse of the Quaffle leaving another’s hands and focused on that. Hector must have been the next to pass, because it was Patrick who was heading towards her.

He switched hands quickly (note to self, he’s left-handed) and did a really interesting throw. If Hyana wasn’t supposed to watch the Quaffle, she’d probably give herself a moment to be impressed. She didn’t have the time, though, and moved after the Quaffle quickly. The sudden curve of the ball surprised her, but she managed to knock it away with her fingertips. She sped after it again, having knocked it off course, and grabbed it, pulling the Quaffle close to her chest.

The Chasers were talking, and Hyana waited until at least one of them was looking at her to toss the Quaffle back at them. That was definitely a good throw from Patrick. If she hadn’t expected the certain play from seeing Gabriel’s finger signal, she probably wouldn’t have caught it. Patrick was definitely a good addition to their team. He had winced when he threw, so he would need to be more careful. Maybe she’d offer to take a look later. After all, with Elly as captain, Hyana was pretty sure socializing and getting along with the rest of the team outside of practice wasn’t a choice anymore. It was going to be a requirement.

  • Pat didn't know what he thought of a drop pass, since he'd been one of the Chasers back in high school that swooped in and grabbed it mid-pass (it was rather an open shot), but he caught it anyway... more
